Six months have passed since I started my work at Wulff Entre. Half a year of sitting in front of the computer arranging electricity, catering and parking tickets for fairs big and small has passed fast, but the beginning of November took my understanding of the job to the next level, as I got my first chance to travel on-site. Alongside my two seasoned colleagues, I headed to Düsseldorf for a fair called Medica.
And what a fair it was!
Medica is the biggest international event in the healthcare industry, with over 4600 exhibitors every year from over 120 different countries. The fairground comprised 18 sold-out halls, no less than half of which had a stand of one or more of our clients.
As expected, the days on site – which in my case meant the two last construction days and the first opening day of the fair – were long (and full of walking!), leaving scarce time for sightseeing in the surprisingly beautiful city. But the hours spent at the fairground were very illuminating. If I ever had doubts before as to why we ask so detailed questions from the clients before the exhibition (such as ”What do you plan to show on the TV screen, and where will the laptop connected to the screen be located?”), I see now what purpose they serve. Or why we prefer to check and double check with the cleaning company that all orders have been received and duly noted. Or why it is sometimes wise to consider using other catering companies than the official one.
